Our experience in developing and utilizing benchmarks® to help improve dealership
operations is a result of over 57 years experience in the automotive industry. The
composite we create has proven to be an invaluable tool in managing dealership or
multi-dealership operations. As a member of a 20 Group, you will receive this report
and the training you need to make the most of it.
An NCM Benchmark® is a calculation of an average of the top half of all
the members of a specific franchise. New benchmarks are created regularly to ensure
current market trends are accurately displayed.
The following are examples of benchmark® reports that we create for the automotive
industry. Some reports can be purchased outside a Twenty Group membership as indicated.
We also create benchmarks® for other industries as part of their 20 Group membership.
Single dealership Composites. We compare your dealership's operational data
against the NCM benchmark® and average.
Multi-dealership Composites. We compare your dealership's numbers with the
national benchmarks® and averages and with each other. Benchmarks® can be
based on the entire NCM data base, high-line imports, regular-line imports and domestic
lines (so you can compare apples to apples) or each dealership can be displayed
side by side with a set of NCM Benchmarks® selected to "fit" the specific dealership
along with a group average column. (Example: Pontiac dealership with Pontiac benchmarks®,
Chevrolet dealership with Chevrolet benchmarks® and Saturn dealership with Saturn
benchmarks®.)
Trend Reports. An excellent management tool that can be used to assist
you in identifying trends in your business and to show each month of dealer performance
relating to management decisions.
The following products are available only to NCM 20 Group members:
Franchise specific or Multi-franchise composites. NCM Benchmarks® are
available for most automotive franchises. This is an invaluable tool for performing
your own in-dealership analysis and to get a feel for market performance for dealers.
Composite segmented for use by department managers.
Available to NCM member/clients who receive monthly composites only. Mailed the
same day as the NCM Composite, the Departmental Managers' Composite is designed
to easily breakdown into sections each of the following departments:

Three-year NCM Benchmark® composite comparison.
Especially helpful for forecasting, and to assist in setting goals for the upcoming
year. This composite comprises a comparison of your operation for three consecutive
years, plus a benchmark® column to assist in setting your goals. The first three
columns are your dealership data listed in consecutive order by year. The next column
is the average of your three data columns, followed by the NCM Benchmark® data
column, and two blank work columns for you to enter your forecasting data.
